Girls’ chance to hone skills
BALLINA basketball players Sian McCowan and Rebecca Rushby have been rewarded after a standout season in the Breakers Under-12 girls side.
The pair has been selected to represent Far North Coast at a skills camp in Port Macquarie next month.
Fifty girls from across NSW have been selected with hopes of making the state side.
The NSW team will play a tournament in Albury later this year.
The Ballina Under-12s took out the North Coast Shield in Ballina at the weekend.
The team also included Tarnie Hilyard, Jorja McQueen, Jen-ayah McCosker, Isla Ewald, Hannah Kelly and Ellie Roberts.
They played a total of 16 games over four rounds at Grafton, Yamba, Lismore and Ballina.
"The girls hadn't played much before and you could see the improvement as the season went on," team manager LeanneMcCowan said.
"They only lost two games and they really played well as a team.
"It's hard to pick the standout players because they all scored points and contributed."
The girls were coached by Eva Ramsey and assisted by Marty Smith.
The skills camp will run from September 28 to October 2.
