Girl, 3, tests positive to STI

A FATHER has been refused bail in court after his three-year-old daughter allegedly tested positive to a sexually transmitted infection.

Detectives from the child abuse squad on the NSW Central Coast launched an investigation into the man's alleged behaviour after they were alerted by concerned doctors.

On Tuesday afternoon, a 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 16.

The child abuse squad was launched this year and is made up of detectives specially trained to investigate crimes against children including sexual assault, physical and emotional abuse and serious cases of neglect.

The squad works in partnership with NSW Health and has teams across regional NSW.

A police spokesperson said on Wednesday that the squad relied heavily on reports from members of the community.

Anyone with information on a suspected case of child abuse can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
