Gilmore bashing court date set

A COMMITTAL hearing date has been set for the man who allegedly bashed world champion surfer Stephanie Gilmore outside of her home in 2010.

Julius Fox is accused of hitting Ms Gilmore in the head with a metal bar outside her Tweed Heads unit complex in December 2010.

Ms Gilmore sustained a head wound and a fractured wrist.

Fox, who was homeless and living in bushland in Tweed Heads at the time of the attack, was arrested and charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The matter was mentioned in Lismore Local Court this morning.

The court heard that there are five witnesses scheduled to take part in the committal hearing.

The prosecution said a half a day should be enough time for the hearing.

Fox did not appear today but Magistrate Robyn Denes made an order for him to appear at the committal hearing on June 1.

Fox remains in custody.
