Gilfillan fourth in marathon event

COURTNEY GILFILLAN has beaten 5486 athletes to land fourth place in the 10km run at the Gold Coast Marathon on Saturday.

The girl from The Channon clocked 35 minutes and 21 seconds for the event, just 35 seconds behind the winner, Queensland's Lucy Kennedy.

A Kenyan foursome came to the Gold Coast to break the longstanding record in the main event – and they left happy, running one, two, three and four, with James Kariuki the man to etch his name in the record books with a time of 2:13:53.

In the women's event, Japanese women made a clean sweep of the marathon, claiming the top three spots on the podium headed by winner Kaori Yoshida in 2:31:33.
