Giants pick up Lamb as Wood heads to Blues

AS expected, former Swans midfielder Jed Lamb was the only player to be selected at yesterday's pre-season draft and will line up for the Giants next season.

The news was mixed for a host of other players delisted at the end of last season, some given a lifeline in the rookie draft, and others forced to confront the reality their careers were over.

Former Brisbane and Collingwood ruckman Cameron Wood was given a third chance and will reunite with his old Magpies coach Mick Malthouse at Carlton.

Richmond selected ex-Port Adelaide midfielder Matt Thomas and former Lions forward Todd Banfield, while ex-Gold Coast midfielder Maverick Weller was given a lifeline at St Kilda.

Joel Tippett, the younger brother of Swans forward Kurt Tippett, was picked up by North Melbourne, while Hawthorn added ex-Roo Ben Ross to its rookie list.

Collingwood veterans Darren Jolly, Alan Didak and Jordan Russell all failed to find new clubs.
