Giant full of praise for suspended Lambert

AFL: GWS key defender Adam Tomlinson feels for suspended Brisbane Lions welfare manager Craig Lambert.

Lambert this week accepted a 12-month ban for "conduct unbecoming” after being embroiled in attempts to shield Lachie Whitfield from illicit drug testers when still at the Giants in 2015.

Lambert, who joined the Lions at the end of last year, was hugely respected during his five seasons at GWS, helping to support the players, many of whom were from interstate and living away from home for the first time, such as Tomlinson.

His influence at the fledgling club was profound, with him helping current stars such as Jeremy Cameron, Dylan Shiel and Stephen Coniglio overcome any homesickness.

"Lambo was terrific,” Tomlinson told EON Sports Radio. "I couldn't speak higher of a person.

"It's very unfortunate what's happened to him because he's probably just trying to help players out.

"He made us feel at home. He and his wife Melissa were terrific in the way they welcomed us pretty much into their family.”

Whitfield accepted a six-month suspension and will be available to return for the Giants in round eight next year.

Former football boss Graeme Allan was also banned for 12 months and subsequently quit as football manager at Collingwood after only several months at the Magpies.
