Gelignite Kid jumps to win
VETERAN performer Gelignite Kid blew his rivals away at Casino last Friday after winning the Cougars Cup.
The rising four-year-old lived up to his good city form to jump straight to the front and record the fast time of 27.28 seconds in the win. Trainer Darren Russell has done a top job with this well bred son of Collision, and he may be eyeing off the Group 3 Bankstown City Cup for him early in September.
The Cougars Cup has been revived this year with the assistance of the Casino RSM Rugby League Club and it was great to see members of the 1979 side on track for the running of the event. The 30-year reunion of the 1979 premiership was well celebrated over the weekend.
Near neighbours Shane Robinson and Charlie Northfield shared the training honours on the day with two apiece.
Trainer Shane Robinson won with two dogs; first with Chonka, which got around a packing field at the first bend to run 23.50s in a 3½ length win, then with Basia, which held the rails running to the first turn before kicking away to score by 4½ lengths in 23.45s.
Charlie Northfield's Lady Proper took out the rich Blue Paws Final when she led all of the way in 27.87s.
The club again thanks the Casino RSM Cougars for their attendance and sponsorship on the day last Friday.
We look forward to another great day's racing this Friday.
