Gay rights activist hacked to death in Bangladesh

ISLAMIC State militants are suspected of hacking to death a gay rights activist and his friend in an apartment in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.

The killing by about six men came two days after a university professor was murdered in an attack claimed by IS.

The activist was named as Julhas Mannan, an editor of Bangladesh's first magazine for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

A mostly Muslim nation, Bangladesh has experienced a surge of attacks on liberal activists, minority Muslim sects and other religions.
