Gas fire in Lismore overnight is quickly extinguished

FIREFIGHTERS responded to reports of a gas fire in Diadem St at Lismore overnight.

A Newcastle Fire Communications spokesman said when NSW Fire and Rescue Lismore brigade arrived about 3am they found a fire in a Telstra telecommunications pit.

The spokesman said firefighters extinguished the fire and checked the area with a gas detector and thermal imaging camera.

When they were sure the fire was out fire fighters secured the area with barriers around the pit and reported the incident to Telstra.
