Gareth's back in the ring

FORMER top junior boxer Gareth Monoghan will break an 11-year drought when he steps into the ring at the Casino RSM Club tonight.

Monoghan was a promising junior boxer who fought 25 bouts before retiring from the sport back in 1997 but the Lismore fighter will make his comeback at the Casino tournament.

The returning boxer has been in training with Lismore boxer Cliff Copeland at the Lismore Police Citizens Youth Club.

Popular Maloney's Glove Club fighter Billy Williams will also line up at Casino, while State silver medallist Christian Ferris, of Glen Innes, will face Kingscliff boxer Ricky Irwin.

Top Casino junior Luke Allen will probably clash with Murwillumbah's Tommy Strain, while in the super heavyweight division Cleveland's Steve Cregan will square off with Mitch Kaufman of Glen Innes.

Two Casino heavyweights, Troy Newman and Daniel Sims, will also compete.

Admission to the club is by gold coin donation, with bouts starting from 7pm.
