Gala event gives hope to refugees

IT WAS a sold-out gala event as members and supporters of Sanctuary Northern Rivers gathered in the A&I Hall in Bangalow last weekend to raise much-needed funds for the refugee organisation.

About 180 guests attended the gala dinner and were entertained by the a capella group Ruby Tuesday and others.

Local ABC Radio host Bruce MacKenzie was MC at the event with the theme of 'Letters of Hope, a refugee's journey from exile to a new home'.

“It was a great night, and the stories were very moving,” said supporter Jacinta Lithgow.

Guests dug deep to support the silent auction and raffles. The group has helped resettle between 100 and 120 people on the Northern Rivers.
