Fundraisers to help fire ravaged families

FUNDRAISERS have been organised to help two Northern Rivers families who lost everything when fire destroyed their homes at Casino and Middle Pocket.

On Wednesday about 2:30pm Casino single mother of two Sharon Gill left her Dyraaba St home to collect her sons from school.

Just after 3pm, she received the phone call that everyone would dread - her house was on fire.

Fire fighters arrived at the scene quickly to see flames coming through the room of the timber and tile home.

Despite their best efforts, Mrs Gill's home, Christmas presents for her children and years of memories were destroyed.

A Facebook titled 'Help a loving family' was set up on the same afternoon as the fire by Casino woman Kristy Shelton.

"As people are aware a lovely lady and her two boys lost their belongings in a house fire," she posted.

"This page is to help in any way possible.

"Clothes, household items anything at all.

"Any help is appreciated."

Ms Gill's niece Michelle Clark has also set up a gofundme campaign to raise money for the Gill family.

To donate visit www.gofundme.com/qtcys644.

Meanwhile, at 4:20 am on Sunday November 1, Matarisvan and Antaratma Boon, woke to the smell of burning.

Less than an hour later, as they watched on holding their sons Vidwaan and 1yr old Tejas, their house and all their possessions were gone.

A Facebook page titled Recovery Rally was set up to help the Boon family by friend Belinda Kelly.

"These guys need funds and they need them fast," she posted.

"They need to buy the necessary equipment to run their business and the mortgage of their beautiful property still needs to be paid.

"While some clothing donations have been provided, life and its financial demands will carry on.

While they are dealing with this, I am asking the community for donations.

Donations can be made via paypal at www.paypal.com.

You will be asked to enter a mobile or email address to send funds to and an amount.

Please enter dramba@gmail.com.

A Recovery Rally fund raising gig will be held at St Martins Hall, Stuart St, Mullumbimby, on Saturday December 12 from 11am.
