Fundraiser for Griffo

THE Evans Head and Mid-Richmond communities are banding together to help a mate in need of support.

Jamie Griffiths, the well known tiler and surfer who is always handy with a smile, had some of his positive energy curbed last month when he was struck down with an aggressive brain tumour.

Despite two heavy operations and numerous scans, and time spent in intensive care, Jamie was back on his feet only last week and smiling - if a bit tired after his ordeal.

But beneath his brave front there is real concern for this popular family man and a fundraiser will be held at the Evans Head Bowling Club on Sunday, August 25 starting at noon.

According to organiser Tracey Bodley, the aim of the event is to raise enough money to send Jamie to Sydney to see radical brain surgeon Charlie Teo.

The day of support costs just $10 per person and will feature lawn bowls, a sausage sizzle, a visit by the town fire truck, face painting and more.

The club's kids' room will be open for a gold coin donation and, most importantly, raffles and auctions will begin from 4pm.

Heaps of business houses have supported the cause and great prizes are on offer, including tickets to Dreamworld and Movie World, two nights at the Ballina Ramada and much, much more.
