More buses for Nimbin to Lismore

THE hippie hitch-hiker may be a thing of the past on roads leading to Nimbin after the NSW Government announced funding for additional bus services linking the village with Lismore.

In announcing the funding, State MP Thomas George said more buses would create work opportunities for people in Nimbin and would also  provide university students with a late afternoon bus service home.

"The Liberal Nationals Government has listened to what the community has had to say about bus services in the region, and are supporting a trial to provide greater access to the things the community needs to do," Mr George said.

About 300 people responded to a survey which showed strong demand for additional bus runs, and based on this response, Mr George said he expected the extra services would be well patronised.

The grant will provide $45,000 towards the total cost of $57,000 with additional support being provided by the Nimbin Neighbourhood and Information Centre and Waller's Bus Company for a period of 12 months.

“This project is an excellent example of how the NSW Government can work together with the local government and non-government sectors to benefit local communities in NSW,” Mr George said.
