Late Nighter on the streets

LATE-NIGHT revellers and people drinking at sports events in Lismore now have no excuse for drivingafter drinking.

Lismore Late Nighter bus services have been expanded to include community events and the current bus route extended, thanks to a $20,000 grant to the Lismore Liquor Accord.

The NSW Roads and Traffic Authorityoffered funds to Liquor Accords that submitted proposals which aimed to reduce drink-driving and alcohol-related offences.

“The Late Nighter will continue to operate every Saturday night, but will also have the flexibility to provide transport options for major events in the Lismore local government area,” Lismore City Council road safety officer Lisa Marshall said.

“This means we will be able to use the Lismore Late Nighter service for events such as the Masters Games, the Lismore Cricket Festival, Nimbin Mardi Grass, NAIDOC, and other major sporting and racing events,” she said.

Rebekka Battista, chairwoman of the Lismore Liquor Accord, said: “Drink-driving is still a major issue across NSW and with programs like the Alternative Transport Scheme from the RTA we can work together toaddress these issues.”
