Fruity art exhibition opens

A NEW exhibition opens at the Serpentine Community Gallery today, continuing the New Year's celebrations of Tropical Fruits.  

In the tenth year that Tropical Fruits have run an art exhibition in conjunction with their New Year's Eve Festival, they bring us Ascension - an assortment of art mediums from over 20 local and other gay, lesbian, and transsexual artists.

Three people's choice awards - chosen over the NYE festival - will be awarded tonight at the official opening.   Ascension coordinator Neil McKellar-Stewart said some of the artworks reflect the artists' personal coming-out stories, while others are simply about expressing their sexuality.
