Frozen poo can fight gut infection

USING frozen samples of poo to treat a common gut bacterial infection is just as good as using the fresh stuff, a new study has shown.

US and Canadian research has found samples of human excrement containing normal gut bacteria have a 70% success rate in clearing up Clostridium difficile - one of the most common causes of colonic infection - when used in an enema.

The research established that using frozen samples of poo was just as effective as fresh samples.

Researchers said the discovery should lead to easier transportation and storage of the "treatment".
