From the archive: Bird’s eye view of Lismore

IN THE lead-up to The Northern Star's 140th anniversary, we have dug into the photo archives to find some interesting images from the past.

Today we have included aerial photos from around the region.

Some things have changed a lot, and some things not at all.

One thing that really stands out is the increased development and density around some of our bigger towns such as Ballina and Lismore.

Every few years or so we usually commission a fly over so our photographers can record this transformation for our readers.

The Northern Star will celebrate its 140th birthday with a special anniversary lift-out in our edition of Friday, May 13.

This will feature many of the Looking Back picture spreads we have been running in our newspaper plus specially written tributes from past editors and employees.

We're also keen to run some of our We We There stories from past years. These are some of the major new events that have shaped our region in the past 140 years. As you can see from these aerial photos we have come a long way in that time period.
