RUGBY LEAGUE: It will be a proud moment for Grafton Ghosts second-rower Adam Slater tomorrow when he comes off the bench for the North Coast Dolphins against the NRRRL rep side.

The barnstorming edge runner has been in top form for the Ghosts since his late call up to the Group 2 representative side last month.

He will be among four Ghosts in the North Coast side for their Country Championships Round 2 clash with Dolphin debutantes Dylan Collett and Mitch Gorman and leading front rower Ryan Binge, who was a late inclusion in the team.

The Dolphins are raring to meet the best that NRRRL has to offer at Geoff King Motors Oval in Coffs Harbour tomorrow and Slater himself cannot wait to rip in.

"I love playing rep footy," Slater said. "Coming from England it is definitely something I strive for especially playing in Australia.

"It means I am doing something good for myself and for my family back home I suppose.

"I didn't even think I was going to get selected. Emotions were high at first, I actually thought Benny was lying to me when he texted me.

"It was a bit of a surprise but it was good, especially sitting in a sushi joint with my parents in Port."

Slater was a late call up for the Group 2 side against Group 3 and his performance on field in Taree was what booked him a spot on Phil Trembath's North Coast team.

Group 2 president and North Coast selector Warren Gilkinson said the side was easily one of the best North Coast outfits he has seen.

"We've got a pretty solid side," Gilkinson said.

"Last year we played in Tier 1 so the boys who played then have already got some experience at that level.

"Canberra was supposed to thrash us last year but we only lost to them by four points.

"There's a lot of guts in the team and they will stand up against this Northern Rivers side not a problem."

The two teams are vying for a place in the Country Championships Tier Two semi-final in Dubbo next weekend.

Gilkinson fired shots at Northern Rivers after they reportedly told North Coast officials that their "bags were packed and tickets to Dubbo already bought".

"They want to keep talking about how we are no competition for them, they have no respect for us," he said. "Oh well it just gives our boys extra incentive to rub their noses right in it."
