From near and far for Sevens

THE international and inter-State invasion for the Byron Bay Rugby Sevens is on again this weekend.

Games will be played at the Byron Bay Recreation Ground on Saturday from 9am to 5pm and on Sunday from 9am to 1pm, with the finals to follow in the afternoon.

There will be 32 men’s teams in action from across Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

They include Taki Mai NZ, Jean Michel Cousteau Resort Fiji, West Subiaco from Perth, Newport Breakers and Manly from Sydney, and Brisbane Fiji.

Sixteen women’s teams will also battle it out, with combined United States and New Zealand girls team KUSA tipped to beat three-time winners Eastsyde from Brisbane.

Other women’s teams fighting for a spot in the finals will be New Caledonia, Dunedin, Sydney and Brisbane.

There will be a pre-tournament meet and greet at the Great Northern Hotel on Friday from 6pm to 8pm.

The Byron Bay Rugby Sevens is sponsored by Coopers Ale, the Railway Friendly Bar, Smirnoff and Southern Cross University.
