French film festival for Ballina

THE North Coast Alliance Francaise is hosting a French Film Festival at Ballina Fair Cinemas over the weekend beginning Friday, April 30.

The festival is touring Australia and comprises five new French films.

The films are comedies, but each has its own unique flavour within that comic genre.

Olivier Maxted, president of Alliance Francaise North Coast, says the festival is a first for the local area and bound to be an attraction for film-goers, French speakers, Francophiles and students.

“There has already been quite a bit of interest in the festival at Ballina Fair Cinemas, so I would advise people to book their tickets in advance, either from the cinema itself or from our website www.afcdn.org.au,” he said.

The April 30 opening film is one of the highlights of the festival, The Girl from Monaco (La Fille de Monaco), a sexy romantic comedy with a murderous twist from Anne Fontaine, the director of Coco Avant Chanel.

All of the films are rated MA 15 +, except for Trouble at Timpetill, which is a family adventure fantasy film..

The film schedule is:

The Girl from Monaco (La Fille de Monaco), Friday April 30, 7pm;

Trouble at Timpetill (Les Enfants deTimplebach), adventure fantasy, Saturday, May 1, 10am;

God’s Offices (Les Bureaux de Dieu), comedy drama, Saturday, May 1, 3.30pm;

Baby Love (Comme Les Autres), comedy of manners, Sunday, May 2, 1.45pm;

Laughing out Loud (LOL), light-hearted comedy, Sunday, May 2, 3.30pm.

All films have English subtitles. Cost: adults $12, concession $10 (AF members/pensioners/students), child (under 15) $8. Festival pass (five films): adult $50, concession $45.

Tickets are available at Ballina Fair Cinemas, phone 6686 9600 or online from www.afcdn.org.au.
