Meet the couple who can lift the rear end of a car

DEAD-lifting the rear of a two-tonne car is no effort for Fraser Coast's strongest couple Vanessa and Troy Murray.

The dynamic duo, who fit in up to 20 CrossFit training sessions every week between them, both took out first places in the Strong Man and Woman competition held on Sunday at Pialba's Physique Fitness.

Vanessa, aged 42, and Troy, aged 44, battled it out against stiff competition in events which included truck dragging and tractor tyre flipping.

While there were only two women entered into the competition, Troy was victorious against about 13 other men to take out Strong Man glory.

Married for 21 years and local to Urraween, the couple chose to radically alter their lifestyles about two years ago after experiencing their first CrossFit workout session.

"I am amazed at what my body can do... and there is still so much to learn," Vanessa said.

The couple also have advice to anyone wanting to achieve goals outside of full-time work.

"It can be done," Vanessa said.

While Vanessa is employed as a childcare educator and Troy as a welder, both are adamant time can be found to exercise, even with two kids at home to look after.

Between work, raising children and spending five hours every Sunday to prepare healthy meals for the week, Vanessa works out about 10 hours each week.

"I love being strong and (enjoy) the confidence that goes with it," she said.

Vanessa, who can dead lift about 143kg from the ground, is now working alongside Troy to compete in the Reebok CrossFit Games in February.

Vanessa is hoping to improve her 153 rank, placed in Australia.
