Fracking for fun and prizes

YOU'VE heard of the Knitting Nannas and the super hero-styled Girls Against Gas, but now the Northern Rivers' anti-coal seam gas movement has a new super star - the CSG Idol.

Barbara Brewster and Chris Degenhardt, calling themselves the Wacky Warblers, earned the CSG Idol title at an event held at Lismore's Italo Club with the song Don't Frack with us Gas Companies, winning a miniature gad drilling rig coated in golden glitter as their trophy.

The pair earned their win in the "blast from the past" category, but there were also prizes for the best CSG poem, the best CSG haiku and ikebana, for "rap and tap", and "burlesque frack dancing". There were also prizes for the best original CSG song, circus, won by the O'Farrell Family Circus, and cabaret act.

"The talent and originality was terrific, all of which made for a fun-filled, entertaining evening with a powerful message for our politicians and gas companies," Mr Degenhardt said.
