Fourth a great start for Paige
IN her first overseas event, Lennox Head triathlete Paige Single has finished fourth at the ITU World Championships in Yokohama, Japan.
Single, 17, was the highest placed Australian in the event and her father, Ed, said she was surprised when a fan asked for her auto-graph after the race.
“She was surprised that anyone would want her to sign anything but the Japanese man said that he was impressed with her fast running in the final stage on such a hot day,” he said.
“She was very pleased to get a good result in her first international event in an overseas race.
“She had a great time in Japan and stayed with a Japanese family who spoke limited English but couldn't do enough for her.
“Paige ended up being the highest placed Australian in any of the events that were raced over the weekend which was a huge confidence boost for her and made her coach Grant Giles very happy.”
The event in Yokohama featured a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run.
Single was seventh after the swim, sixth after the bike leg and then moved into fourth on the run.
