UPDATE: A toddler is fighting for life after a horrific single-vehicle crash which closed a major highway for hours.

The boy, 2, was airlifted from the scene of the crash on the Moonie Hwy west of Dalby to Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

He suffered head injuries and was transported in a serious condition with multiple traumatic injuries.

He was one of five people in the vehicle which slammed into a tree about 11.20am Monday.

A woman, aged in her late 20s, was taken by Queensland Ambulance to Dalby Hospital with injuries, along with a male child who suffered facial and head injuries.

The pair was later airlifted by Rescue 500 to Princess Alexandra Hospital and Lady Cilento Children's Hospital respectively.

Another toddler was uninjured, and young girl was treated for abdominal pain at the Dalby Hospital.

The Moonie Hwy was closed until 3pm as Queensland Fire and Emergency Services worked to free the trapped toddler.

3.10PM: A toddler has been airlifted to Brisbane after a horror single-vehicle crash west of Dalby this morning.

The RACQ LifeFlight service airlifted the toddler from the scene on the Moonie Hwy, about 12km from Dalby, after they were freed from the wreckage.

The age and gender of the child has not been released.

The child is believed to have suffered serious injuries in the crash.

It follows three other children and a woman, aged in her 30s, were taken to Dalby Hospital by road after the crash.

A second helicopter was tasked to the hospital and it is expected to airlift more casualties to Brisbane as a result of the crash.

1.20PM: Four children and a woman have been injured in a single-vehicle crash on the western Darling Downs.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics have transported three children and a woman, aged in her 30s, to Dalby Hospital with moderate injuries after the single-vehicle crash about 11.15am on the Moonie Hwy.

A fourth child is expected to be airlifted from the crash scene.

Two of the children are toddlers, while the other two are younger than 10.

A QAS spokeswoman said two helicopters had been tasked to the incident, with one expected to airlift the fourth child from the scene.

Two of the children and the woman suffered minor injuries while the third child who has been taken to hospital suffered facial injuries.

Emergency services remain at the scene and traffic had blocked the highway.
