Forum focuses on carbon initiatives
PAGE MP Janelle Saffin has organised a forum being held in Casino tomorrow to outline Carbon Farming Initiatives, with attendance coming from a diverse cross-section of the agricultural sector.
"I am pleased to be able to host this important forum and have key Ministerial and Departmental representation at it," Ms Saffin said.
The forum will be delivered by Climate Change and Energy Efficiency Parliamentary Secretary Mark Dreyfus QC MP and staff from the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency.
The forum will provide information to encourage farmers, land owners, local government and other stakeholders about how to use the Carbon Farming Initiative to generate extra income by reducing agricultural and landfill waste pollution.
After the forum, Ms Saffin will take Mr Dreyfus to visit Casino West Public School. The school was one of the 21 schools in the Page electorate which received Federal Government grant funding in the latest round of the National Solar Schools Program.
The school will use its $12,000 grant to install a 2 kW solar power system to improve energy efficiency as well as reduce ongoing energy costs.
"The school will be installing a web-based metering system, so the students will be able to see the renewable energy generated from the solar panels and monitor their energy consumption," Ms Saffin said.
"They then plan to incorporate the information into their science and maths classes."
Ms. Saffin will also introduce Mr. Dreyfus to senior management on a visit to the Northern
Co-operative Meat Co. Ltd where energy efficiency issues will be discussed.
After these three events, there will be a briefing session for local government mayors and senior management which will outline opportunities for local government organisations as part of the Clean Energy Future Package.
