Former Wikileaks candidate will stand for Senate

THE former Wikileaks candidate who resigned from the party last week has confirmed she will stand as an independent for the Senate.

Leslie Cannold was the number two Victorian Senate candidate for the Wikileaks Party until last week.

Ms Cannold resigned after the party decided not to give preferences to The Greens, despite vocal support for lead Senate candidate Julian Assange from Greens Senator Scott Ludlam.

While she could not withdraw her candidacy, Ms Cannold on Tuesday confirmed she would not be campaigning at all.

However, she wrote "in the unlikely event that I was elected, I would sit in the parliament as an independent".
