Former NRL player not in court

FORMER NRL footballer Craig Field did not front Lismore Local Court today despite reports in The Daily Telegraph and The Sun Herald that he was to appear over an alleged king hit murder at The Kingscliff Hotel last month.

Lismore Local court staff confirmed Field will next appear via video link on August 21.

Meanwhile, as Field remains behind bars for his part in the alleged king hit murder of Cudgera Creek farmer Kelvin Kane, his co-accused is free on bail.

Former Grafton Rhino's rugby league coach Shaun Fathers was released on conditional bail at Lismore Local court on July 24.

This was the day before hundreds of mourners packed a Murwillumbah church to farewell the popular horseman and cattle farmer.

41 year-old Fathers and 39 year-old Field are due to face Lismore Local court on August 21.

Fathers is expected to appear in person, while Field, who is currently on remand in Grafton jail, is scheduled to appear via video link.

Mr Kane died on July 16 after suffering massive head injuries from an alleged fatal punch outside the Kingscliff Beach Hotel the previous night.
