TOYOTA CHASING: New tech across the Ford Ranger lineup will arrive with the 2017 model year as Ford's 4x4 ute goes hunting HiLux.

Ford Ranger chases down HiLux with more standard inclusions

THE Australian-developed Ford Ranger has its sights on usurping Toyota's HiLux as the country's best-selling 4x4 ute.

Latest figures shows the popular Ford is within 310 sales of the HiLux 4x4 in 2016 so far, and is upping the ante further by adding more new tech as standard to its 2017 model.

A rear view camera and reverse parking sensors will be standard across the pick-up range (excluding the XL Plus), the XLT get front parking sensors and the 4x4 XL Super Cab Chassis is now available with automatic transmission.

Ford's latest SYNC3 communication and entertainment platform with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is included for the 2017 Ranger XLT and Wildtrack, with the latter scoring a host of driver assist tech like adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist.

Ford says Australians are increasingly opting for the range topping XLT and Wildtrak variants, which now account for 62% or Rangers sold this year, up from 51% in 2014.

No price details have been released for the MY2017 Ranger which will be launched in the next few months.

The 4x4 range currently starts at $38,790 for the 2.2 XL Single Cab to $57,890 for the 3.2 Wildtrak Double.
