Force snap Brisbane Hoodoo by defeating Reds at home

WESTERN Force booked their first win of the Super Rugby season and their first victory in Brisbane in a hard-fought 19-12 slugfest over Queensland Reds at Lang Park on Saturday night.

Earlier, the Crusaders also opened their 2013 accounts with a 41-19 thumping of the Bulls in Christchurch.

At Lang Park just one try was scored - by Alfie Mafi for the visitors - in a match that saw the Reds unable to convert possession and field position into five-pointers.

Queensland was held up over the line with eight minutes to play after a pick and drive but again the Force's defence held strong to deny the hosts a fourth consecutive victory.

It was new Reds coach Richard Graham's first encounter with his old franchise after he moved back east from Perth midway through last season to work under coaching director Ewen McKenzie.
