Foot-crushers sentenced

A COUPLE who robbed a man of $4000 outside the River Road Motel at Tweed Heads then drove over his foot when they fled in his car, will spend at least two years in jail for their crime.

Mark Edward Walsh, 44, and a 35-year-old woman both pleaded guilty to robbery in company and to stealing the man's Commodore, which left their victim stranded at night beside the road, struggling to pull his pants back up following the robbery in August 2006.

The fleeing woman also left her young child behind in a motel room and was arrested when she later tried to claim the youngster.

Judge James Black in Lismore District Court sentenced the former Sydney residents to four years jail, ordering them to each serve at least two years and three months in custody before being eligible for release.

The sentence against Walsh also took into account his assault of a police officer.

At the time of the robbery Walsh admitted he had taken the drug ice and had been drinking vodka.
