FNC Little League players chase spot in national contest

THE Far North Coast Little League team will test its skills this week when it takes part in the David Nilsson Little League State titles at Runcorn, South Brisbane.

The tournament starts today and runs for the next four days culminating with finals on Sunday.

The team is coached by Scott McClelland, Aaron Olley and Greg Healey, all of who have a wealth of playing and coaching experience.

A squad of 20 players tried out for the FNC team which played in 12 games over the summer period.

Eventually, 14 players gained selection in the final team.

The team has been training since mid-March, every Sunday for three hours.

They will be up against some tough opposition with six other teams from across Queensland vying for the trophy, three from Brisbane, two from the Gold Coast and one team from North Queensland.

The team that finishes in the top three will then go on to the National Little League tournament which will be held at Lismore in June.

Meanwhile, the second round of FNC Baseball will be played at Albert Park, Lismore, this weekend.
