FNC chase inaugural title

BASEBALL: The Far North Coast under-23s baseball team will be hitting the fields from today in the first of three days of baseball at Lismore’s Albert Park.

The FNC Timberjacks will have their hands full as they take on teams from North Queensland, the Gold Coast and throughout the Brisbane region.

Veteran coach Geoff Baxter will have the job of guiding the Timberjacks, a task that will be made all the more difficult when players are unavailable at times with work and other commitments throughout, as well as contending with players who are still outside their season.

The bulk of the side will involve players who have been involved in the FNC representative program for the past 10 years.

Pitching will be the Timberjacks’ strength, with Jason Britt, Gus Daley, Matt Wyatt, Dan Muggleton and Nathaniel Steele able to hold their own against all comers.

The power hitting of JJ Sexton, Jake Turcato, Ahren Baxter and Nathan Daley will complement the consistency of Jacob Anderson, Trent Clark, Bryce Martin, Jack Jeffery, Matt Devine, Lockie Johnson and Matt Vidler.
