Appeal for blood donors as flu season hits blood stocks

A LATE spike in the cold and flu season has left the Lismore blood donor centre in short supply.

Lismore is one of five blood donor centres across the state that needs a combined 4000 extra blood donation appointments over the next four weeks.

The Lismore Blood Service has had up to 28% of donors cancelling their appointments due to cold and flu.

A campaign has been launched to encourage 1000 Lismore locals to give blood and help keep fridges stocked for the long weekend and beyond.

Donated blood helps to save the lives of cancer patients, road trauma victims, people with blood disorders, unborn babies, and mothers during childbirth. It takes only an hour to donate and the trained volunteers make it as painless as possible.

The Blood Service is welcoming new and existing donors over the next four weeks .To give blood, please call 13 14 95 or visit donateblood.com.au
