Flash mob protest

ABOUT 70 people braved the rain at Bentley on Thursday week ago to participate in a flash mob protest against the imminent return of Metgasco to the region.

Lock the Gate spokesman Iain Gaillard said the people of Bentley were "pretty annoyed" Metgasco was planning a drilling site in their community, and were working with others who wanted to see the Northern Rivers declared gasfield-free.

"There has been some preliminary work there and Metgasco representative Stuart George has been visiting almost daily with consultants and surveyors and we were there to keep a close eye on what's going on with the preparations for the drill pad site with the intention of stopping it," Mr Gaillard said.

"It's time that our local State Government representatives actually took notice of what the popular sentiment of the Northern Rivers is and set to work to make the Northern Rivers gasfield-free, rather than facilitating speculative miners."
