Five reasons you need to visit Hong Kong
NORTH Coast locals can now fly direct to Hong Kong year round for an exceptional (and affordable) holiday experience.
Seen in the past as simply a stopover location, the vibrant city of Hong Kong is fast becoming a must-see holiday destination.
No matter what you are looking for, Hong Kong offers a huge variety of experiences - and it's now just a nine-hour flight away - direct from Gold Coast Airport.
Last month, Gold Coast Airport announced that as of April, Hong Kong Airlines will be offering direct flights between the Gold Coast and Hong Kong all year-round.
For Northern Rivers locals that means there is no need for the time and expense of driving to Brisbane, or flying via Sydney.
It has never been easier to access one of the most exciting cities in the world.
From spending the day cruising the harbour on your very own Chinese 'Junk' boat, to some of the most authentic dining experiences, to everything in between, Hong Kong will seem like a different holiday every day.
So what are you waiting for?
Five reasons to visit Hong Kong
If you think your dream of taking the kids to Disneyland will never come true; think again.
Hong Kong Disneyland is every child's dream with seven themed areas: Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, and Toy Story Land; and all the rides, attractions and entertainment you'd expect. All at reasonable prices. You can stay at the resort, or choose accommodation elsewhere - there is also a fantastic public transport system.
This is a must-do HK experience. At 554 metres above sea level, The Peak offers the most stunning views of the concrete jungle that is Hong Kong, as well as the gorgeous Victoria Harbour. Getting to The Peak is great fun, board the Peak Tram from the Lower Terminus, and sit back as you climb higher and higher.
Ride the peak
Hong Kong's most famous street market, Stanley Market is one the whole family will love. There is so much to see, do, eat and buy - you'll need a whole day (and a bit of patience). From imitation designer bags, children's clothing, take home trinkets, food, linen…you name it, they have it.
Stroll the boardwalk and beach nearby, or discover the numerous Cantonese restaurants, and the Stanley Plaza shopping centre, another huge shopping destination.
Another theme park well worth a visit is Ocean Park, a marine-life theme park with animal exhibitions, rides and attractions - including a super cool cable car. Kids will love the Polar Adventure, which takes you to the North Pole and the South Poles, encountering penguins, walruses, seals, arctic foxes and snowy owls along the way.
