Five arrested in $77 million cocaine bust

ANOTHER international drug syndicate has been busted, with the Australian Federal Police seizing 135kg of cocaine after a three-month criminal investigation on Friday.

The AFP arrested five men who police allege were involved in the importation of $77 million of cocaine.

Working with the Customs and Border Protection Service, the joint investigation started in September this year after Customs officials inspected a shipment arriving in Sydney from Chile.

A search revealed the cocaine, before the investigation was referred to the AFP, who executed 13 warrants across Sydney and Brisbane after the arrests.

The cocaine bust and arrests mark the third major disruption to international drug syndicates operating in Australia.
