Fitness and fun for charity

PUSH-UPS are a great way to get in shape, but in Byron Bay, doing push-ups this Saturday will also help children facing life-threatening medical conditions.

Push-ups for Charity will be held at the Byron Bay Public School from 11am.

Organised and created by Byron Bay personal trainer Candice Marslen of Onyx 4 Fitness, the event is a fun way to get fit and make a difference by supporting Make-A-Wish Australia – an organisation whose mission is to grant wishes to sick children.

“Our goal is two-fold,” Candice said.

“We want to support Make-A-Wish by raising as much money as possible to help the children, and we want to engage our local community in a fun way to get fit.

“The community is really rising to the challenge. There’s been a lot of interest.

“I think that says a lot about our community’s interest in helping children and is a reflection of how much people appreciate the importance of being healthy.”

Candice said she hoped to raise at least $5000 on the day.

She said people needed to register for the event and to organise sponsors.

“Even if you don’t want to participate in the push-ups, you can still make a donation to Make-A-Wish Australia,” Candice said.

“We need a minimum of 25 people to take part, but obviously I am hoping for a lot more.

“Come down on Saturday and cheer us on.”

Candice hopes the event will be held annually.

Push-ups for Charity participants and donors will receive a free home fitness program on video. they can follow to prepare for the event.
