Fisherman escapes shark with minor injuries

A SPEAR fisherman had a lucky escape from the jaws of a shark in northern NSW late Sunday.

The 31-year-old man was dangling a dead fish around the water off South West Rocks, near Port Macquarie, when he almost became the bait.

A grey nurse shark took a small bite out of the fishermen's leg but the man was able to get out of the water with minor injuries.

He was taken to the Port Macquarie hospital and later released.
