First Bonalbo art festival callout for artists
VILYA DE TOZSER has been a volunteer at the Bonalbo and District Hall for three years.
She runs weekly stretch and tone classes.
Come February Ms de Tozser will host the first Bonalbo Art Festival at the hall and already there is a buzz about the event.
She applied for a Celebration Grant from Multicultural NSW and received $4000 to put on the arts festival.
"I am amazed at the number of creative people here,” Ms de Tozser said.
"The festival will celebrate the creative spirit of the area.”
She is seeking poets, writers, painters, sound studio artists and digital designers to showcase their work.
"The money will be used to get a hanging system, screens, cables and bring the community together,” she said.
She hopes the festival will "bring people out of the woodwork.”
"It's taken a lot of coaxing,” she said of some of the artists she has discovered.
Cherie Imlah is on board with her poetry and Keith Cameron is providing some of his giant chair sculptures for the exhibition.
Elder Cedric Walker will open the festival on Saturday, February 11 starting at noon and events will run until 10pm.
The festival continues on Sunday from noon until 4pm.
Because the Woodenbong markets are no longer operating there will be markets stalls throughout the weekend.
Ms de Tozser is an artist herself, having previously worked as an art consultant and educator in Sydney, and as a dance teacher.
Her paintings and sculptures will be included in the exhibition.
On Saturday evening at 6pm there will be a re run of Bonnywood Rising, the film made by Professor Grayson Cook as part of the If These Halls Could Talk project for Arts Northern Rivers.
The Tabulam indigenous dancers are lined up to be part of the event and Ms de Tozser is looking for more indigenous artists to be included.
All artists in the Northern Rivers and anyone else who thinks they could contribute to this event call Ms de Tozser on 66651310 or email bonalboartfestival@
