Man charged after firearms allegedly found in car

A MAN has been charged with firearm and drug offences following a police pursuit and subsequent traffic stop in Coffs Harbour last week.

About 11.30pm on Thursday, December 31 2015, officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command initiated a police pursuit with a white Volvo sedan around the Jetty area at Coffs Harbour.

It was terminated a short time later, when the vehicle was involved in a crash on Moore Street, Coffs Harbour.

The male driver and his passenger fled the scene.

Police seized the vehicle and during a search allegedly located a shortened rifle, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

Following further inquiries, just before 10pm on Friday, January 1, a car was stopped on Jarrett Street, Coffs Harbour, and the male passenger - a 20-year-old man from Dorrigo, was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

A mobile phone was seized, that police will allege contained images of items seized in the earlier incident.

The man was charged with possess shortened firearm, goods in custody and administer prohibited drug and refused bail in Coffs Harbour Local Court.
