Fire victim wants more for youths

IT IS believed a 17-year-old male has been charged in relation to the shop fire on Fry St on August 12.

Owner of the property Ursula Tunks said while there was a slight sense of closure, it didn't make it any easier.

"It's made me sadder," Ms Tunks said.

"It's closure, but it's just another family impacted by the silly acts of a kid."

She said the hardest part was losing her father the day before the fire.

"I bought this to run with my dad and he passed away on the Monday and we found this on the Tuesday," she said.

Ms Tunks said it was a "classic example" of why the Clarence Valley needed more things for youth to do.

"We need some accessible services for kids - and not just sport - but somewhere for them to go," Ms Tunks said.

"According to surveys, our region has three times the national average of 25 years old and under so we need something."
