Fire under investigation

A NEW Year’s Eve house fire at Kyogle is being treated by investigators as suspicious.

Lismore crime prevention officer Snr Const Michael Hogan said this week the fire was still under investigation and police were awaiting the full analysis of forensic information taken from the scene.

“Forensic analysis doesn’t happen overnight, but it is happening,” he said.

He said police were appealing for people with information to contact Lismore detectives on 6626 0599.

The fire started just before 8.55pm and totally engulfed the premises, located on the corner of Anzac Parade and Norton Street.

There were no occupants in the house at the time of the fire, and most personal possessions had been removed from the rental property when the people living there moved out earlier that week.

Neighbours helped stopped the fire spreading to neighbouring homes. Firefighters put out the fire, but were unable to save the old weatherboard house.
