Fire in your application to join the Lennox RFS

THE Lennox Head Rural Fire Service needs you.

The firies worked hard to battle the blaze which burnt more than 700ha of land to the north of Lennox Head.

The fire began with a lightning strike on December 29.

Lennox Head captain Geoff White said 10 local firies were involved in fighting the fire.

He said the Lennox brigade was always on the lookout for more volunteers. The brigade will hold its monthly meeting tonight at the Mackney Lane headquarters at 7pm.

Capt White said anyone keen on joining the firies could turn up.

He said prospective volunteers were required to go through an application process and, once accepted, needed to complete a weekend basic firefighters' training course, which was generally held in the local region.

The Lennox brigade has been involved in helping fight other fires, particularly the Blue Mountains fires late last year, and also responds to property fires in the village.
