Fire from Glenreagh to Nana Glen being contained

FIREFIGHTERS have been busy containing the major fire that has burnt out more than 1800 hectares of bush along Morrows Rd, near Glenreagh over the past week.

The RFS says the fire front now stretches from east of the village of Glenreagh toward Nana Glen.

Seventy-two firefighters and 16 fire trucks are this afternoon on the ground fighting that fire with the assistance of seven waterbombing aircraft, RFS Media said.

RFS Superintendent Paul Norton said favourable wind conditions today have allowed firefighters to gain the upper hand with their backburning and containment lines.

"We are still trying to contain the Glenreagh fire and it has now been brought under the control of the Clarence Valley RFS," Supt. Norton said.

The Superintendent said a change in weather conditions has helped with today's efforts.

"The wind over the weekend really killed off our containment efforts, but over the next couple of days conditions look fairly benign," he said.

"But then again on Thursday there are forecasts of high temperatures again and hot northerly winds."
