Fire crew battles grass fire ignited by tanker explosion

A PETROL tanker explosion has left one driver with serious burns and sparked a grass fire near Nelson Bay in NSW.

The tanker, carrying 16,000 litres of fuel, rolled several times and exploded on Seaham Rd about 1.25pm.

The 23-year-old driver has been rushed to hospital but his condition is unknown.

Fire-fighters from Port Stephens are controlling a grass fire at the scene.

The road remains closed.
