Nutworks factory on Sunshine Coast hit by fire
A FIRE that broke out in the roasting room of Yandina Nutworks at about 8am this morning has left the business contemplating how much it will cost them in lost production.
No-one was hurt as the building was evacuated as soon as the blaze broke out and fire authorities worked quickly to put it out.
Nutworks marketing coordinator Nicole Keoghan said she expected plenty of clean-up needed as the roasting room was located behind their retail store, with the office above and processing plant behind.
"There will be a fair bit of clean-up as that room links to everywhere," she said.
"Everyone's out safe, everyone's been accounted for.
"We'll go and assess things shortly, but it is the whole roasting room."
The roasting room is in a 40 metre x 40 metre twin level shed.
Fire units were on their way some time after 8am.
Just before 9am, it was reported the fire was out but the oven was still 'smouldering'.
Nutworks is situated opposite the Ginger Factory in Yandina.
The tourist attraction allows people to uncover the history and health benefits of Australia's macadamia nut, view chocolates and confectionery being made and taste the samples on offer, its website says.
Nutworks started operations in the early 1990s in a small factory on a farm property in Verrierdale on the Sunshine Coast, employing six people.
Due to rapid expansion, the company established a new factory and tourist facility directly opposite the Ginger Factory on Pioneer Road Yandina and commenced processing Macadamias at the new facility in 1997.
Nutworks diversified into chocolate and confectionery in 2002 and now provides a strong product base of panned, enrobed and hand made products.
Product from the company's factory is exported all over the world as well as supplying the local Australian market.
