Finals go down to the wire in junior tennis

TWO of the finals of the Nortec Northern Rivers Junior Tennis League at the Ballina Tennis Club produced tight contests.

In Division 1, despite the efforts of the Milne sisters, who won their singles matches, the Goonellabah Goers had too much depth for the Ballina Boomers, winning by four sets to two.

Mullumbimby Midgets were convincing winners in Division 2 by five sets to one over the Ballina Bears.

In the Division 3 final, the Ballina Bandits edged out the Lismore Lions in a tie-breaker shoot-out after it finished three sets each.

The annual Ballina Open tennis tournament will be played at the Ballina and Alstonville courts from January 2 to 5.

It looks likely to attract record entries with its upgrading by Tennis Australia to a Silver AMT and Junior Bronze tour event.
