Final dash of drama for Byron Dendy
THE final credits will roll on Byron Bay's Dendy cinema this evening, but not before staff starred in their own drama.
One of the theatre's 35mm projectors caught fire on yesterday, causing a small amount of damage.
It was quickly extinguished with no-one harmed.
The Dendy theatre, which announced its closure after being unable to strike a financially viable deal with its Gold Coast landlord, is set to be re-opened by another boutique operator Palace Cinemas in the middle of next month.
A Palace spokeswoman said all of the 19 existing Dendy staff will be able to retain their jobs under their management.
Dendy PR officer Rose Fox said morale had been very positive among staff during the Dendy's last few weeks due to Palace's decision to take over the running of the theatre.
The Byron Dendy is marking its final day with $5 tickets on all movies and $2.50 choc-top ice-creams.
