Fight for skate park continues

A "THANK you" campaign has been launched to reassure Ballina Shire councillors their approval of the Wollongbar Skate Park is a good decision.

The campaign is the brainchild of the Wollongbar Alstonville Skate Park group which celebrated the council decision in February to give the controversial park on the corner of Plateau Dr and Rifle Range Rd the go-ahead.

"It has been approved, then rescinded and approved again in the space of 18 months," said WASP representative Bianca Urbina.

"Now it looks like we have to fight another move to have the decision reversed.

"We are urging people to attend the meeting at council chambers in Ballina at 9am tomorrow."

Ms Urbina claimed a vocal minority opposed to the park had expressed negative views on children and young people in particular.

"In light of these ... claims we as a community would like to reassure councillors that the majority of families are grateful for the decision," she said.
